Established in 1993, the Department of Geology is a unique study centre in itself, where students undergo study related to Earth as a planet. Department has excellent placements in both Govt. and Private Sector, which includes placements in Govt. organizations like GSI, ONGC, IBM, DGM, GSDA, WCL, etc. and private sectors like Adani Group, Lloyds Metals and Energy Ltd, etc. Certificate Course in Mining Geology (CCMG), Field Projects and Research Projects are some of the major activities of the department where students study various Geological aspects like Petrology & Petrography, Mining Geology, Hydrogeology, Watershed management, etc. Faculty members provide consultation to various industries specifically mining through various ways. In 2012, the Department became the only one offering PG in Geology in Gondwana University. Also, in the year 2022, the department has become a Center for Higher Learning and Research, where students can pursue Ph.D. Degree in Geology. The department has an excellent record of meritorious students which includes university merits.
